amber...

new amber bracelet:
these genuine baltic amber beads took me soooo long to find....but they were definately worth the hunting! the warm dark honey tones have the beautiful little flecks inside, with this design carried through into the golden rutilated quartz rondelles that i have also strung onto the bracelet.
the amber earrings aren't a new design but they go perfectly with the bracelet!

paper cut...
beautiful paper cuts, lots of patience, and very steady hands.

i was familar with rob's window displays, particularly his liberty piece (see pics on his website: misterrob.co.uk) but was suprised that his talents also extended to book sleeve design, and even included one of my favourite covers! for some reason my cover is black on red rather than white on black (have also seen some blue and yellow versions)....
and isn't the paper cut below just stunning?

i spotted this necklace in the metro newspaper earlier this week but didn't at first recognise it as rob ryan - despite it clearly incorporating his very recognisable style. while browsing the tatty devine site i stumbled on it again - so cute!
find paper cuts and prints to buy over at rob's etsy shop

papercutdiecut's etsy shop is full of stunningly detailed hand cut art, like this delicately detailed butterfly piece, and all at super reasonable prices. This 14x19 inch piece is only £34 including postage to the UK and would look absolutely stunning framed in any room.

p.s. whilst hunting around for paper cut pics i stumbled across a lovely blog post on the same subject over at rings on her fingers
and who can say no to these realistic paper cut keys over at porkchopshow ? at $4.75 including shipping to the UK i'm not sure i can....they would look adorable in a shadow box.

spring/summer 09...

the latest issue of elle is packed full of delicious clothes, i'm mildly infatuated with the new burberry range...love the subtle hues, the floaty edges and all the ruched detail. MUST have one of those coats...or a least a highstreet rip off - please point me in the direction of any versions!

and this burberry floral fabric necklace is so femine and pretty - and also a wholly unaffordable £995....

bebe's beautiful macros...
bebe nonsuch's macro shots are just.....stunning. i have nothing but admiration (and a little bit of envy) for her beautiful photography skills. oh, and her stash of vintage crafty bits are rather enviable too:

credit crunch romance...
our credit crunch romance extended to a buy one get one free carluccio voucher which we redeemed in the rather lovely spitalfield's market. even by night it's fun to wander around and take photos of the market stall scaffolding and light installations. the shop windows also make for great late night peeking...full of vintage and antique delights, and one rather grizzly restaurant which had meat and maggot catchers hanging above punter's heads....a veggie nightmare.
after a rather fab (if i may say so myself) celebrity spot...ok ok, so a few clues, SHE is young, cute and as beautiful as you would expect when viewed less than a foot away (was too nervous to ask for a photo)*...we wandered back to the hoxton hotel to spot a familiar face from a few years ago. turns out that a former band mate of my bloke is now a rather successful bar manager across london and running the hoxton grille bar - was a pleasure to catchup and sample the rather delicious, and strong, cocktails.
and so the hotel. well, it was small but perfectly formed. the interior design was flashy, but i liked it. whilst neon tables and fuscia strip lighting is not normally my style, it worked great with the oversized hunting lodge theme throughout the lobby. the huge papier mache birds looked beautiful - i have tried to identify the designer but no luck yet, let me know if you can point me in the right direction. the very petit dejeuner of a pret a manger bag containing yogurt, orange juice and a banana is a nice touch - particularly as it mysteriously arrives at some point in the night and it waiting for you when you awake...but hungry tummies are nicely filled in the grille restaurant. the nicest poached egg i've had.
and a banksy (i think) spot on the way home.
*so my celebrity spot was the gorgeous alexa chung hopping out of the lounge bohemia

oh...

i know you've heard this all day, but.....i have not seen snow this deep before. even when i was a tinker running around in a baby pink snow suit (it was such a cute snow suit) the snow was not that deep, i'm sure of it. i spent today snowed in from work, scavenging the cupboards due to our lack of emergency provisions (i sooo need to stock up on end of the world food), teasing the cat and watching him sink in the inches and inches of snow...and wishing that it would snow like this more often. oh, and admiring the rather great snowman that had popped up around the house...any snowman makers out there care to share your craftmanship pictures?
