just to remind yourself...

the story of stuff
why being green is important. the animation is great, the story is interesting, and i actually learnt a little more about how the consumer chain impacts on individuals and society. am feeling more than a just smidgen guilty for working in media and helping to build the golden arrow....but also a good reminder about how you as a crafter, and/or as a consumer, can play a role in reducing the consumption of the planet - see more at story of stuff

polaroid love...

these polaroid transfers from she hit pause studios are gorgeously dreamy and sexy...and they very much make me want a polaroid camera to play around with. the prints are produced by rubbing the negative onto textured water colour paper to create these foggy images. see more and purchase the prints from their website or over on etsy. also available for weddings!

not sure what technique was used by she hit pause, but i came across a group on flickr with some info about polaroid transfers and lots of lovely photos.

working lunch...

i've decided i want a reusable lunchbox. it's not a new years resolution as such. more of a 'it'll be much cheaper' kind of thing....and maybe healthier? but it has to be a very special lunchbox which fits the following specifications:
  • sealable lid to keep saucy goodness in

  • room for cutlery because i always forget/loose these

  • at least two spaces, maybe with a divider, to keep the saucy bits off the non saucy bits

  • be microwavable

  • look pretty

  • be cheap, or at least good value

i have a few under consideration.....

Laptop bento boxes:

laptop bento lunchbox

these look amazing! i love the cute little boxes. i'd heard of bento before but never thought of having 'bento' portions of western food (not a huge fan of sushi style food). but however delicious and exciting this looks i know that i don't have amanky's beautiful food preparation skills and my bento laptop box will likely consist of pasta, some pasta sauce and.....a cut up nutrigrain bar....every day. check out amanky's amazing flickr photoset of all the lunches she has created.

cost for the box is around £20 including postage from reusablebags.com. not sure how long this lasts for or what conditions apply, but found this code for 20% off the laptop bags on the resuable bags site - f70838 for 20% off - worth a try for money off!

vintage workman

these vintage metal boxes are so so cute. would still need me some little plastic containers to pop all my bits inside but the boxes just look beautiful. however, not sure the space hoggage in the fridge would go down to well, so might have to get these to just adorn the house with.

more bento

polkadot bento lunchbox this site is a must visit for anyone with japan mania or a love for kawaii. it's absolutely stuffed full of cute bento boxes and bento acccessories - like little stickers to give your food eyes, lots of hello kitty boxes and other ridiculously cute food packaging. loved this little polkadot set for $16.50 (not including p+p) but worried that its not big enough for my fatty guts....might need 2 or 3!

goody bag

a cute little bag for stuffing full of nuts, fruits and maybe some of those yummy spicey thai crackers? lovingly handmade by ellebabyboutique

reusable lunchbox bag
stuff your sangers inside these simple yet very clever oilcloth bags by rickrackqueen and then pop then with inside the lunch bag with less healthy treats (hmm chocolate).

kraft paper lunch bagslove love love these personalised paper bags by pishposhpaperworks. i would definately want to go to the effort of making my lunch in the morning just so i can pop it in one of these bags. however, not to handy for saucy pasta so might need a bit of a box and bag combo. but no pinching of lunches from the shared fridge - unless they have a very convincing excuse.

you can buy packs of plain paper bags for just £2 here - arm yourself with some stickers and create a very sweet lunch time treat for yourself!

klip-it box

klip it lunchboxok, so not half as fun as the other lunch boxes here, but they are cheap and they do the job. the sanger compartment looks like a perfect size for popping in your breaded delight without the filling falling out. now that is important. maybe it would be a bit more exciting decoupaged in stickers and magazine cutouts?

water

and dont forget the water bottle - this pretty orla kiely one is a bit of a frippery but it IS very lovely.

i'm still looking for lunchbox ideas so have you come across any good ones?

typography....

i stumbled across this video the other day...you may have seen it before as i understand it's been bumbling around the web for a while, but it looks great. i'm loving presentations that really focus on the words, the wording, and the style of the wording. i think it has such a huge visual impact. i'd love to make a presentation like this: the girl effect

i love the look, and i like the message - although i agree that the message is open to critique, namely that the message is overly optimistic, too black and white, and too simple to deal with the complex issues of misogyny, violence against women and poverty. but it also reminds me a little of peace one day, change one day at the time, assuming that those who are changing are adequately supported by those who truly understand the issues they are facing.

anyway back to typography. more yummy typography here:
